Galveston Island State Park in Texas is a great place to spend the day or weekend. Located on the western part of Galveston Island, this 2,000 acre park offers visitors plenty of opportunities for fun and relaxation.

The park has 66 camp sites available for those who want to stay overnight. There are also plenty of activities to enjoy such as kayaking, fishing, swimming, bird watching, hiking and more. The beach at Galveston Island State Park is perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Visitors can also explore one of the many paddling trails or forge their own path while kayaking.

Fishing is a popular activity at the park with options for both freshwater and saltwater fishing. In the bay, visitors can fish for species like redfish, speckled trout, flounder and black drum. In ponds within the park you can find largemouth bass, catfish and bluegill. During certain seasons you may even be able to catch some tarpon or kingfish in the surf along the beachfront.

If you’re looking for something a little different than fishing, there are plenty of other activities available at Galveston Island State Park. Birdwatchers will love exploring the variety of birds that call this area home including pelicans, herons and egrets.
